Food! Glorious Food!! Food Auction!!

A food auction... I never heard of that before!  But Danny~ of Danny's Auctions in Foster, RI~ says they are "better than coupons"!  Let's try it!  Off hubby and I go for a 6 PM auction.  Walk around and do a preview.  Tables of cereal, cookies, candy,  snacks, cases of chips, sauces, pasta, all kinds of non-perishables.  This looks like fun!  I register and get us a bidder number.  A very entertaining group attends Danny's auctions!  We are hoping it is worth the trip.  Roaming an hour from home for groceries is a bit of a trip.  And it was well worth it!

Cases of chips~ 12 bags of Wise Bar-B-Q Flavor, the size that sells for about $3 each, and 24 bags of Sweet Potato Chips, the ones that sell for about $1.69 each, ~for $3 a CASE!  We buy chips regularly so we actually covered the cost of gas with the money we saved on chips!  LOL!  There was also a freezer truck full of meats that you bid on and pick up after the auction.  They did walk around with an example of what was being auctioned with those things.  Whole pre-cooked roast beefs~ the kind you see the clerk at a deli go and unwrap when he needs another one~ for $2 a pound!  We bought 4 of those.  Bags of chicken wings.  Sirloin steak burgers.  Candy and cookies for $2

a bag or box.  All name brand.  Ended up spending $200 and got all this~

You can't really tell, but the shopping bags are all overfull with food.  The 2 banana boxes are full of clementines~ $5 a box.  I don't see the boxes of meat here either.  Going back there tomorrow after the Plainville auction.  Two big auctions in one day!  My idea of a great day!!
Check out Danny's Auctions on Auctionzip or Facebook.  The food auction is the first Saturday of every month.  He also has regular miscellaneous auctions, antique auctions, car auctions, and... livestock auctions!  Someday I am going to go watch one of those.  From the photos it looks like something you only see on tv!

New Auction Places! Food Auctions? Fabulous!!

Adventure awaits!!
Two new (to me) auction galleries!!  First is JWG at their new location in Plainville, Mass.  Found them on Auctionzip.  Like most of the ones I go to.  They showed a box of mixed loose beads and some pre-strung.  To me, it was like seeing a pirate's treasure chest.  I was on a quest to get those beads!  Dragged my son, Sam, off on my treasure hunt!  The auction was of the contents of an old farmhouse and its barn.  So at 10 AM was an auction of the barn contents and then at noon would be the house contents.  It turns out, the owners of the house had owned either a jewelry store or a jewelry repair business.  My treasure box was full of tiny brown paper envelopes that they had originally been placed in when purchased.  They held such promise!  And all kinds of findings and yards of tiny chains.  We arrived there in time to watch the end of the barn auction, do the house contents preview, and then find seats.  I wanted the beads and a box of linens stamped for embroidery.  That's all!  Prices were good.  The auctioneer was fair and entertaining.  His whole family works together there and they were all nice and friendly.  When they went to get the box of linens in amongst some other sewing things, it turned out it was a whole lot consisting of 2 shelves.  So I ended up with all this~
Plus a large plastic box of thread that didn't fit in the photo.  Oh~ all for $15!  Near the end of the auction, there was so much left that the auctioneer invited everyone to walk around and put anything that hadn't come up yet and you were interested in on a table to be auctioned.  Put up my box of beads.  Bid on the beads~ $30.  Someone else was interested in MY treasure?  Ended up with sewing lot, beads box, two boxes of generic jewelry and some money for Sam.  Pay the nice lady.  Go to pick up my stuff from the "holding area" and there were only 4 lots on my list.  I said something is missing.  My beads!  The nice man says, oh no~ they were supposed to be part of the sewing lot.  SO I got a huge sewing lot AND a box of beads that I thought I was payiing $30 for, for a GRAND total of just $15!  The original sewing lot price.  Time for the happy dance!  So I am going back there tomorrow morning for more goodies from the same estate.  I saw more beads... Come on, Sam!  Treasure awaits!!
